Peter Vigue

Cianbro is a leading health and safety innovator providing construction and service solutions to clients throughout North America. It is an employee owned company with over $450 million in annual sales and over 2,500 team members.

Peter Vigue joined Cianbro in 1970 in an entry level position after serving in the merchant marines. Since then, his experiences in project management and senior company management have transformed him and Cianbro into pioneers within the construction industry.

Peter’s strong commitment to workplace safety led him to rally behind the idea that safety should become the impetus of Cianbro’s total quality management plan. Peter’s vision for safety later included the health of team members as he believes a healthy company is the result of healthy team members.  Today Peter champions the Cianbro Wellness Program, with the goal of improving quality of live and reducing at risk health behavior. As a result of Peter’s commitment to safety and health, Cianbro is recognized nationally for its safety and wellness programs and has been awarded the 2004 American College of Medicine’s Corporate Health Achievement Award as the “Healthiest and Safest Company in America as well as the Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA) Gold Level of Achievement Award.

Ranked number 153 nationally by Engineering News Record, Peter has brought the 60 year old company strongly into the 21st century. Under his leadership, in 2004 Cianbro took the final step in its evolution as an employee-owned company through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan that now owns all of the stock for the benefit of all employees.

Peter focuses a great deal of his energies on state and local civic and educational matters. He believes strongly in business involvement in education. “Business uses the end-product of education. We need to take a leadership role, provide the resources, and define the expectations we have for our future employees. He continues to actively seek new opportunities to improve Maine’s economy in an effort to provide more opportunities for Maine people. 

Peter has been recognized with many awards including the 2008 Engineering News Records Top 25 News Makers Award. Other recognitions include: 2008 Bangor Chamber – Chairman’s Community Service Award, 2007 Spurwink Humanitarian Award, 2006 Boy Scout of America Silver Beaver Award, 2006 Maine Maritime Wall of Honor, 2006 Junior Achievement Maine Business Hall of Fame Award, 2006 Catholic Charities of Maine – Legacy of Love, 2005 American Heart Association – Gold Heart Award, 2004 Maritime Person of the Year, 2003 NEDA Business Person of the Year, 2002 FAME – Entrepreneur of the Year Award, 2002 Katahdin Area Council, Boy Scouts of America – Distinguished Citizen Award, 2002 Economic Growth Leadership Award – Maine Development Foundation.
