Bryce Blair is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of AvalonBay Communities, Inc. Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) engaged in developing, redeveloping, acquiring and managing quality apartment communities in select markets within the United States. AvalonBay's markets are located in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Pacific Northwest, and Northern and Southern California regions.
The Company owns 174 apartment communities containing over 50,000 apartment homes in ten states and the District of Columbia. Currently, AvalonBay has approximately $3.5 billion of new development communities either under construction or in the planning stages.
Bryce will be discussing the history and growth of AvalonBay from a regional division of a private company to one of the largest publicly traded apartment companies in the US with over $10 billion of assets. He will also be discussing the impact of the current economy on the housing market in general and the rental market in particular.
He previously held the positions of Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of Development, Acquisitions and Construction and has overseen the development, construction, acquisition and management of over $10 billion of multifamily assets. Prior to the formation of Avalon Properties in 1993, Mr. Blair was a Partner with Trammell Crow Residential (TCR) from 1985 to 1993.
Mr. Blair is on the Executive Committee and Board of Governors of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT), and is also Trustee and past Chairman of the Multifamily Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI). Mr. Blair holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from Harvard Business School as well as an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the University of New Hampshire.
